Next Election: March 17, 2020 DescriptionThe city is located in the northern part of Palm Beach County and contains large land areas to the west that are currently unpopulated. The majority of the residents live in planned developments in an area bordered roughly on the south by the Beeline Highway and north by Donald Ross Road, west to the C18 canal and east to Prosperity Farms Road (except for a small section that follows PGA Boulevard across the Intracoastal to US1. The boundary is irregular, with many pockets of unicorprorated neighborhoods, including some that are completely enclosed by the city. Politically, the city is divided since the 2012 redistricting into 42 populated precincts and a few empty ones. The 5 seats on the City Council are elected city-wide for three year terms, and are term-limited to 2. The current terms for groups 2 and 4 began in 2019, while groups 1, 3 and 5 will be elected in 2020. HistoryPalm Beach Gardens began in 1959, when John D. MacArthur announced plans to build a community of 55,000 people on 4000 acres of cattle ranches and pine forests. By 1970, the city had about 7000 people, but growth accelerated after the construction of the Gardens Mall in 1988. The 2010 census reported a population of 48,452, living in a land area of approximately 55 square miles. The 2016 census estimate is 53,778. Of the 39 municipalities in Palm Beach County, Palm Beach Gardens ranks 7th in population, after West palm Beach, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Wellington and Jupiter. Demographics

Matthew Lane INCUMBENT |
Background Matthew Lane was born in 1955 and graduated from Emory University and the Nortwestern University School of Law. Following law school, he served as law clerk to the Chief Judge of the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He is admitted to practice in both Florida and Ohio. With his own practice, Matthew Lane & Associates, P.A., he practices family law in Palm Beach County. Active in the community, he was a board member of the North County Neighborhood Coalition (NCNC), a member of the Advisory Board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of PBC, and was General Counsel of Hospice of PBC. Prior to his election to Council in 2017, Matt was active with the North Palm Chamber Governmental Affairs Committee (and represents the city now) and served the city of Palm Beach Gardens on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board. He was also Legal Counsel to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a Board Member of the Palm Beach County ADL, and Past President of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Palm Beach County. He is endorsed by a range of former Council members and other current and former north county officials. Matthew lives in Mirabella (Precinct 1186). |

Chelsea Reed |
Background Chelsea Reed was born in 1969 and is a lifetime local resident. Active in her family businesses, she has been active in the community and named "Volunteer of the Year" by the Palm Beach Chamber North. She chaired or founded several chamber committees, including the Sustainability Subcommittee, the Healthcare Committee and the Artigras Recycling Committee. Currently an appointed alternate on the Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board, and a vice-Chair of the Transportation Planning Agency (TPA) Citizens Advisory Board, Chelsea is very knowledgeable about development projects, and mobility, street and road concerns in the city and surrounding area. She is endorsed by a variety of current and former federal, state and local officeholders. Chelsea lives in the Eastern Hood Road area. (Precinct 1194) |
