Michael Caruso (R)

Background

Michael Caruso is the founder of Caruso & Caruso, a CPA firm in West Palm Beach. He has a business degree from George Washington University. His community involvement includes board memberships and the presidency of a homeowners association, and other civic groups in the Delray area.

If elected, Michael's interests include increased funding for K-12 schools, "cracking down" on crime, growing the economy through workforce training in the public schools and community colleges, and curbing illegal immigration by ending tax-funded benefits.

In the 2018 primary, Michael defeated Matt Spritz with 56% of the vote, then went on to beat James Bonfiglio by 32 votes (0.04%) after recount.

James Bonfiglio (D)

Background

James Bonfiglio is currently vice-mayor and a commissioner in Ocean Ridge, and formerly chaired the planning and zoning commission. Graduating from the University of Rochester with degrees in Political Science and History, he obtained his JD at the Loyola School of Law. As an attorney, his practice centers on insurance and morthgage foreclosure defense, much of it pro-bono.

If elected, his interests include boosting trade and technical education in the state, and ending the disenfranchisement of felons.

His most passionate agenda though is gun control and attacking the NRA. Responding to Parkland, he has called for permits for all guns, and mandatory registration along with strengthened universal background checks, a ban on "military style" weapons and their ammunition, and the purchase of armor piercing bullets. On his website he says: "And to those that say the legislation that I intend to champion may violate the 2nd Amendment, too bad."

In the 2018 Primary, Jim defeated Ryan Rossi with 57% of the vote.
