Next Election: November 2020 The new district 22 is a result of the redistricting lawsuit brought by the League of Women Voters and others that was decided at the end of 2015. Lois Frankel had represented the old CD22, a coastal district including parts of Broward and Palm Beach, and Ted Deutch had CD21 to the west. The new maps created two north/south districts. CD21 is now entirely in Palm Beach county and includes most of the previous 2 districts except a part of Boca Raton. CD22 is now mostly in Broward to the South but does include about 100K voters in the Boca area. Trading seats, Frankel won CD21 in 2016 and Ted Deutch took CD22. Background Ted Deutch was born in 1966 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and studied at the University of Michigan, earning his Law degree from U.M Law School in 1990. He currently lives in Boca Raton. In 2006, Ted ran for Senate District 30, defeating Irv Slosberg in the primary with 55% and Libertarian Karl Dickey in the general with 87%. When former Congressman Ron Wexler resigned unexpectedly in 2010, Ted ran for his seat in the special election in April of that year, defeating Ed Lynch with 64%, and then keeping the seat in the November general election, beating Joe Budd with 63%. As a Congressman, Ted Deutch has been a reliable progressive, supporting the Obama agenda, including the stimulus and the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), and opposing the Ryan budget. He has earned a "perfect" score of 0 out of 100 from the American Conservative Union. In his first run for the new CD22 district in 2016 he defeated Republican Andrea McGee by 18 points. In the 2018 primary, he defeated challenger Jeff Fandl with 87% of the vote. |
